چکیده

ork in the field of augmented cognition began by classifying aspects of cognitive processing (attention, working memory, executive function, and sensory processing) with well-defined, well-understood laboratory tasks (often referred to informally as “Psych 101” tasks). As researchers have moved from the laboratory environment to the field environment, they have introduced the artifacts (motion, electrical, networking traffic, and disconnect) and stressors (information overload, physical load, competition, and threat of pain) inherent in some operational environments to which augmented cognition systems would be transitioned. The move from the laboratory to mobile field environments brings a number of unique challenges that must be addressed if cognitive state assessment is to be used successfully in task domains that require the operator to be mobile. Tough sacrifices need to be made, with limitations on the sensors to be used, processing power, and knowledge of the task environment. Therefore, unique techniques must be developed to enable this technology to move beyond sedentary operator domains. W

Extended Kalman Filtering and Pathloss Modeling for Shadow Power Parameter Estimation in Mobile Wireless Communications

In this paper accurate estimation of parameters, higher order state space prediction methods and Extended Kalman filter (EKF) for modeling shadow power in wireless mobile communications are developed. Path-loss parameter estimation models are compared and evaluated. Shadow power estimation methods in wireless cellular communications are very important for use in power control of mobile device a...

A probabilistic technique for simultaneous localization and door state estimation with mobile robots in dynamic environments

Virtually all existing mobile robot localization techniques operate on a static map of the environment. When the environment changes (e.g., doors are opened or closed), there is an opportunity to simultaneously estimate the robot’s pose and the state of the environment. The resulting estimation problem is high-dimensional, rendering current localization techniques inapplicable. This paper propo...

Supporting Real-time Cognitive State Classification on a Mobile Individual

The effectiveness of neurophysiologically triggered adaptive systems hinges on reliable and effective signal processing and cognitive state classification. While this presents a difficult technical challenge in any context, these concerns were particularly pronounced in a system designed for mobile contexts. This paper describes a neurophysiologically-derived cognitive state classification appr...

Topological map learning for a mobile robot in indoor environments∗

A system that builds burrow-like topological maps and solves the localization of a mobile robot for indoor environments is presented. The approach uses visual features extracted from a pair of stereo images as landmarks. New landmarks are merged into the map and transient landmarks are removed from the map over time. A learning rule associated to each landmark is used to compute the landmark’s ...

Smart antennas for combined DOA and joint channel estimation in time-slotted CDMA mobile radio systems with joint detection

In cellular mobile radio systems, the directional inhomogeneity of the mobile radio channel can be exploited by smart antennas to increase the spectral efficiency. In this paper, a novel smart antenna concept applying receiver antenna diversity at the uplink receiver is investigated for a time-slotted code-division multiple-access (CDMA) mobile radio air interface termed time-division CDMA (TD-...
